Morning.

Your home has been sealed shut since November.

Four months of closed windows, recycled air, and whatever your furnace filter decided to let through. The EPA estimates indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air — and in winter, when everything's buttoned up tight, it gets worse. Dust mites. Pet dander. Cooking fumes that linger for hours because they've got nowhere to go. And your tap water? Most municipal systems are technically "safe" in the way that a C-minus is technically "passing."

Spring is around the corner. Before you throw those windows open, this edition is about making sure what's already inside your home is worth breathing — and worth drinking.

Quick question before we get into it — have you ever tested your home's air quality or tap water? Hit reply and let me know. I'm curious how many of us are just... trusting the vibes.

Coway AP-1512HH Mighty Air Purifier

$230 | $155 on Amazon | (33% off)

🌬️ The air purifier equivalent of that friend who's been reliable for 10 years and never once asked you to help them move.

Wirecutter doesn't hand out a decade-long winning streak lightly. The Coway Mighty has been their #1 air purifier pick for ten consecutive years, and right now it's sitting at $155 on Amazon — down from its usual $229 and the lowest price I've tracked since 2021.

Here's the thing: most air purifiers in this range cut corners somewhere. The Coway doesn't. True HEPA filtration captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns across 361 square feet. It runs whisper-quiet on low — quiet enough to sleep next to. And the running costs are the lowest in the category at roughly $40–50 per year for replacement filters. That works out to about $0.07 per cubic foot of clean air per minute, which is a number only someone writing a newsletter at midnight would calculate for you.

The 3-year warranty covers the motor and electronics, and owners routinely report 8–10 years of daily use before needing a replacement. At $155, the maths is simple: pennies per day for a decade of cleaner air.

Why It Wins:

  • 🏆 Wirecutter's #1 pick for 10 consecutive years

  • 💨 True HEPA — captures 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns

  • 🔇 Whisper-quiet on low setting — won't wake a sleeping toddler

  • 💰 Lowest filter costs in category (~$40–50/year)

  • ⏱️ 8–10 year expected lifespan from a single unit

The Catch: It covers medium rooms only — 361 square feet means a living room, not a whole floor. The housing is plastic, not the steel construction you'd find on an Austin Air HealthMate at three times the price. And Coway's customer service gets mixed reviews when warranty claims are involved. But at this price point, the value-to-longevity ratio is the best I've found anywhere.

Miele Classic C1 Turbo Team PowerLine

Vacuum Cleaner

🇩🇪 Built so well that "planned obsolescence" is a phrase Miele engineers have to Google.

There's a question I see on Reddit every week: "What vacuum do repair technicians buy for their own homes?" The answer is always Miele. Always. The people who see what breaks and what lasts spend their own money on the brand that tests every vacuum for a 20-year lifespan.

Miele just launched a fresh promotion — 20% off select models through March 8, no code needed, applied at checkout. The Classic C1 Turbo Team drops to roughly $399 from its normal $499, which makes this the most affordable entry point into Miele ownership I've seen. You get German-engineered sealed HEPA filtration, the turbobrush head for carpets and pet hair, and a machine that your kids might genuinely inherit.

The Catch: This is entry-level Miele. The turbobrush is air-driven, not the powered electrobrush you'd find on the C3 line. Bags run $50–100 per year. It's heavy compared to a cordless stick vacuum, and there are zero smart features. But it's a Miele for under $400. That sentence alone is worth reading twice.

Dyson 360 Vis Nav Robot Vacuum

🤖 Dyson said "we quit robots" and dropped the mic.

Dyson quit the robot vacuum business. That's not a rumour - they've exited the category entirely and partnered with another company for future models. The remaining inventory is being cleared direct from Dyson at $400, down from its original $999. New, with a full 2-year Dyson warranty, bought straight from the manufacturer.

The 360 Vis Nav uses 26 sensors and full-width HEPA filtration to clean an entire floor autonomously. It's the "set it and forget it" clean air tool — the one that vacuums while you sleep so you're not breathing yesterday's dust today.

The Catch: It's discontinued. Software and firmware updates will taper off. There's no mopping capability. And once the remaining stock is gone, it's gone — Dyson isn't making more. But at $400 direct from Dyson with a full warranty, you're getting a $1,000 robot vacuum from the manufacturer at 60% off with none of the third-party risk.

Tineco Floor ONE S7 Steam

You're seeing this because you referred a friend. Nice work.

Tom's Guide called the Tineco Floor ONE S7 Steam "my favorite appliance of 2026," and at $398 on Amazon — down from its $599 launch price — it's easy to see why. This thing vacuums, mops, and steam-sanitises your hard floors in a single pass. HyperSteam technology hits 284°F, which means you're not just pushing dirty water around — you're actually killing what's living down there.

If you've got kids crawling on floors or a dog tracking in whatever dogs track in, this replaces three separate tools with one 10.8 lb machine that self-cleans when you're done. 40-minute runtime covers most homes in one session.

The Catch: Tineco is a newer brand — this isn't a 20-year Miele situation. Expect a solid 3–5 year lifespan, which is standard for powered floor cleaners. The steam function means you'll want to use distilled water to avoid mineral buildup. And it's hard floors only — no carpet cleaning here. But for what it does, nothing else on the market does it in one device at this price.

Waterdrop D6 Undersink Reverse Osmosis System

💡 The No-Brainer

You probably spend $150 or more per year on bottled water. The Waterdrop D6 installs under your sink in about 30 minutes, reduces PFOA/PFOS, lead, fluoride, heavy metals and chlorine from your tap water, and pays for itself in roughly 18 months. It's normally $399, but Waterdrop's winter pricing through March 2 brings it down to $249 with code WDD6 at checkout.

The Catch: Waterdrop is a newer brand — they don't have the 20-year track record of an APEC or the heritage of a Miele. The warranty is just one year, which is short for a water system at this price. Replacement filters are an ongoing cost.

Friday we're slowing down. Way down. Whisky and watches - because sometimes the best thing a dad can buy is something that gets better with time.
